What matters in a Georgian reading app

Georgian has its own 33-letter alphabet (Mkhedruli), a verb system that marks subject and object on the verb, and very little graded material for English speakers. A reading tool helps most when it shows a romanization next to each gloss while you are still decoding the script, and when the text is actually written for beginners rather than borrowed from the news.

Questions

What is the best app to learn Georgian by reading?

It depends on your level and what you want to read. For a complete beginner who wants a story written for their level, ReadNative’s Khevisberi Gocha starts at A1 and is free. To import and read your own Georgian content with audio, LingQ supports Georgian. If audio on everything matters most, look at LingQ.

Is there a free app to read Georgian?

Yes: Khevisberi Gocha is free in ReadNative and readable here in your browser (55 chapters online); LingQ, Clozemaster also start free.

Can I learn the Georgian alphabet and read at the same time?

Yes, and it works well: the script is fully phonetic, so most learners can sound out words after a week or two. Read with romanization on tap at first, and check yourself less often as the letters become automatic. Our Georgian alphabet page has every letter with a quiz.
