About
We believe the best way to learn a language is to read it.
ReadNative is a small, independent team building a reader for language learners. It started with Georgian — a beautiful language with almost no graded reading material — and grew to 20 languages, from Spanish and Japanese to Armenian, Persian and Thai. The same team makes TonePerfect, a pronunciation trainer for Mandarin tones.
How our books are made
- Real stories, retold. Each book is a graded retelling of a classic or folk tale — Stories of Afanti, Aesop's Fables, The Legend of the White Snake, Bash Chelik, Don Quixote, Hansel and Gretel and more. We work from public-domain originals and write fresh, simplified text rather than copying modern translations.
- Graded chapter by chapter. Books start at absolute beginner (A1 or HSK 1) and introduce new words gradually, so each chapter is only slightly harder than the last.
- Every word glossed. Each sentence carries a translation and every word a contextual gloss, with romanization for non-Latin scripts.
- AI-assisted, human-directed. We use AI models to help draft, grade and gloss text, then check structure automatically and review language quality. If you spot a mistake, tell us — we fix it in the next update.
What's free
The first book in every language is free, and the free books can be read in full on this website. ReadNative Pro unlocks the rest of the library.
