Questions

What are the most common Ukrainian words?

The top ten are я (I), не (not), в (in), що (what; that), на (on), це (this), ти (you (informal)), так (yes; so), у (in), і (and).

How many Ukrainian words do I need to know?

The few hundred most frequent words make up a large share of any everyday text, which is why they're the best place to start. To read graded stories comfortably you need roughly 1,000–2,000; for unadapted books, several thousand. Test yourself with the Ukrainian vocabulary size test.

Where does this list come from?

The ranking is based on OpenSubtitles 2018 subtitles (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), cleaned by hand to remove names, fragments and noise, with meanings added for learners.
