Questions

What are the most common Persian words?

The top ten are که (that; which), رو ((colloquial object marker), من (I), به (to; at), و (and), تو (you (informal); in), از (from; than; of), اون (that; he), این (this), یه (a).

How many Persian words do I need to know?

The few hundred most frequent words make up a large share of any everyday text, which is why they're the best place to start. To read graded stories comfortably you need roughly 1,000–2,000; for unadapted books, several thousand. Test yourself with the Persian vocabulary size test.

Where does this list come from?

The ranking is based on OpenSubtitles 2018 subtitles (hermitdave/FrequencyWords), cleaned by hand to remove names, fragments and noise, with meanings added for learners.
