Georgian text difficulty checker
Paste an article, a chapter or song lyrics in Georgian. You'll see how it compares with graded readers, the share of very common words, and the rare words worth learning before you start.
What makes a Georgian text hard?
Mostly vocabulary. The 1,000 most common words of a language cover a large share of everyday text, and every extra thousand adds less. A text that stays inside the top 1,000–2,000 words is beginner-friendly; one that keeps reaching for words outside the top 5,000 will feel like a wall of unknowns, however simple its grammar.
That's the idea behind graded readers: stories written so that almost every word is one you already know. If you want Georgian reading that is pitched at your level from the first page, see our Georgian books, or measure your vocabulary with the Georgian vocabulary size test.
Frequency data: Leipzig Corpora Collection (news, 2020).
Questions
How does the Georgian text difficulty checker work?
It splits your text into words, ignores names and numbers, and checks how many of the remaining words are among the 1,000 and 3,000 most common Georgian word forms (from Leipzig Corpora Collection (news, 2020)). That share is compared with the same measurement on ReadNative's graded Georgian books — their beginner chapters and their B1-level chapters — to place your text on a beginner-to-advanced scale.
Why measure common-word coverage?
Vocabulary is the biggest single factor in reading difficulty. Research on reading (Hu & Nation, 2000; Laufer) suggests learners need to know roughly 95–98% of the running words in a text to read it comfortably and pick up new words from context.
How accurate is the level?
It's a rough guide, not a certified CEFR rating. Grammar, sentence length, idioms and topic matter too, and in highly inflected languages many ordinary word forms fall outside a 15,000-form list — that's why the scale is calibrated per language rather than shared across languages.
Is my text stored?
No. The analysis runs entirely in your browser; the text never leaves your device.
